Dave Venn is a St. Louis Jazz Scene icon. He was born, raised and received his musical education in St. Louis. While still in college Dave began his professional music career as a tenor saxophonist, performing with the Jazz Central group and various other local bands.
Jazz in St. Louis in the 1960s was flourishing – Gaslight Square, The Playboy Club, DeBaliviere area, etc… with more opportunities for pianists than saxophonists; Dave began his career as a jazz pianist.
Dave has accompanied many nationally-renowned singers and instrumentalists who have performed in St. Louis. He is in demand both as a soloist and in larger ensembles, regularly appearing at the top clubs, hotels, concerts, and other venues throughout the area. The Riverfront Times acknowledged this in naming Dave “Best Local Pianist/Keyboardist.” The solid success, wide appeal, and distinction he enjoys only serve to underscore his on-going musical growth and freshness.
Dave Venn lives with his wife, Jeanne, in University City, Missouri and is the father of David Venn, the senior editor of LasMayores.com, MLB.com’s Spanish Web site.
